Recipe // Apple Spice Galette
Galettes are one of those desserts that can look wildly impressive but are unexpectedly easy to make. We made this one a little festive by adding beetroot powder to the dough, all with organic and non-GMO ingredients from our shop! Ingredients
Filling
โ 1/3 cup coconut sugar
โ 1 tsp cinnamon
โ 1/2 tsp salt
โ 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
โ 1/4 tsp ground ginger
โ 1/4 tsp ground cloves
โ 1 tsp vanilla
โ 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
โ 3-4 apples, we love the skins on
โ 1/4 cup dried cranberries
Dough
โ 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
โ 1 1/2 tsp sugar
โ 1 1/2 tsp beet root powder
โ 1/2 tsp salt
โ 1/2 tsp cinnamon
โ 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into chunks and chilled
โ 1/3 to 1/2 cups ice water
โ egg, beaten, set aside
Directions:
โ Preheat oven to 400ยช F
โ In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry dough ingredients
โ Add the chilled butter cubes and mix them in with the dough, pressing and breaking them down with your fingers until they are similar to a big crumble
โ Slowly, with a little at a time, begin adding the chilled water until the dough forms. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle on more flour until the dough is smooth then roll the dough into a ball, wrap it airtight, and place it in the fridge while you prepare the apples.
โ Thinly slice your apples and add them to a large mixing bowl. Add all the remaining filling ingredients and toss to coat the apples
โ On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 12" disc.
โ Arrange the apple filling onto the center of the dough
โ Fold in the outer edges of the dough, over the filling, forming a 2"" crust all the way around
โ Brush the crust with the beaten egg and lightly dust the crust with coconut sugar. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown.
