Recipe // Apple Spice Galette
Galettes are one of those desserts that can look wildly impressive but are unexpectedly easy to make. We made this one a little festive by adding beetroot powder to the dough, all with organic and non-GMO ingredients from our shop! Tag us if you make one, they are SO delicious and we're still swooning over the aroma it leaves in the kitchen 🥧
Ingredients
- Filling
1/3 cup coconut sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
3-4 apples, we love the skins on
1/4 cup dried cranberries - Dough
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp beet root powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into chunks and chilled
1/3 to 1/2 cups ice water
1 egg, beaten, set aside
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400ª F
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry dough ingredients
3. Add the chilled butter cubes and mix them in with the dough, pressing and breaking them down with your fingers until they are similar to a big crumble
4. Slowly, with a little at a time, begin adding the chilled water until the dough forms. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle on more flour until the dough is smooth then roll the dough into a ball, wrap it airtight, and place it in the fridge while you prepare the apples.
4. Thinly slice your apples and add them to a large mixing bowl. Add all the remaining filling ingredients and toss to coat the apples
6. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 12" disc.
7. Arrange the apple filling onto the center of the dough
8. Fold in the outer edges of the dough, over the filling, forming a 2"" crust all the way around
9. Brush the crust with the beaten egg and lightly dust the crust with coconut sugar. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown.
